The William Dawes Endowed Fund for Excellence in Economics

Established in 2010 by Sal Trifiletti ‘76, and Tom Kasulka ‘83, and supported by hundreds of Bill’s former students

Bill believed in education as an engine for wisdom, social good, and economic mobility.

Today, the William Dawes Fund supports annual awards in recognition of

teaching and research excellence by Stony Brook Economics graduate students.

Bill Dawes passed away peacefully on May 1, 2023 at Stony Brook University Hospital, family members beside him. At his family’s request, in lieu of flowers, contributions to the Fund are welcomed in honor of his 48 years of service with the Department of Economics as a beloved teacher, Chair and mentor.

Scenes from the surprise William Dawes Fund announcement — during class — attended by many of Bill’s former students and mentees (2010). Many thanks to all of the many supporters of this Fund… over the years and continuing today.
